A report in the New York Times Monday said that Google will fire about 4,000 workers from its Motorola Mobility unit. Motorola Mobility is one of the two companies formed several years ago when Motorola separated its research and technology component from the component that manufactures cellphones.

Motorola Mobility, the cellphone maker recently purchased by Google, will be letting 20% of its staff go, the report said. The move largely does not affect Israeli workers, who are mostly employed at the technology division of the company, Motorola Solutions.
