Some 9,000 people arrived on Sunday night for the Society for the Protection of Nature’s special event in honor of the Perseids meteor shower. The event was held at the soccer stadium held Mitzpe Ramon.

Every year in mid-August, the Earth passes through a swarm of dust grains, causing a larger than usual rate of meteors. At the peak of the showers, about  60 meteors per hour can be seen.
