U.S. Not Changing its Assessment on Iran

The United States has not changed its intelligence assessment regarding the Iranian nuclear threat, National Security Council Spokesman Tommy Vietor clarified on Thursday. He was responding to reports in Israel that Iran has made quicker progress in developing the components of its nuclear program than was previously believed.

“There is still time to act diplomatically to persuade Tehran to stop its nuclear program,” said Vietor, who refused to confirm or deny the Israeli reports. He added that the U.S. government believes that Iran has not yet reached the threshold of acquiring nuclear weapons.
