Be Ready for the Worst after the Fall of Assad

Colonel Oren Cohen, who came back to command duties from serious wounds suffered during the 2008-2009 Cast Lead counter-terror operation in Gaza, replaced Colonel Munir Amar, Wednesday, as commander of the elite Hermon Brigade, which operates on Mount Hermon and the Golan Heights. It has been prominent in the last two years for stopping attempts by Syrians to cross into Israeli held areas of the Golan Heights.

Speaking at the ceremonies for the change of command, Ga'ash (Volcano) Division Commander Tamir Heyman said, "We are in a historical period, without knowing how the day after the fall of [Syrian President Bashar Al-]Assad will look. We must be ready for the worst, and this readiness demands a high preparedness to protect this important region from attack and readiness to hit any terrorist who tries to infiltrate Hermon outposts and communities."
