A woman in the city of Rosh HaAyin has set herself on fire in her apartment on Wednesday according to news reports. The victim is said to be approximately 70-years-old. Magen David Adom medics rushed to the scene to provide medical care. She is listed in serious condition with severe burns. There is currently no indication as to the motive behind her action, however within the past month's time eight other people have set themselves on fire or attempted self-immolation due to economic woes resulting in two deaths.
The first several people stated that their actions were to protest poverty and debt.
Moshe Silman, a physically-disabled 57-year-old protester died on July 20th after setting himself on fire at a protest in Tel Aviv leading to several large demonstrations in his memory. A physically-disabled man in the city of Yahud was rescued after setting himself on fire on July 22nd. He also declared his act a protest of what he saw as an unfair cost of living. Also on July 22nd, a woman in her 40s tried to light herself on fire in Tel Aviv after she poured gasoline on herself. Passersby who saw the incident thwarted the attempt. A man in Netivot attempted to set himself on fire on July 23rd. He was stopped by police. Also on July 23rd, a 65-year-old resident of Ofakim tried to self-immolate but was prevented by police and taken for medical treatment. A man in his sixties threatened to set fire to himself on fire in Akko on July 25th.
