Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu called for more firefighting planes during a hearing at the Knesset. The State Control Committee on Carmel Disaster held a meeting Tuesday afternoon. Prime Minister Netanyahu mourned those lost in the fire and advocated more fire extinguishing systems such as aircraft.
The Mount Carmel forest fire of December 2010 claimed the lives of 44 people. Two teenagers from Isfiya in northern Israel were initially arrested and accused of carelessly starting the fire while smoking in the woods.
