Rivlin: Carmel Fire Hearing Must be Open to the Media

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin told Chairman Uri Ariel of the Knesset State Control Committee, Tuesday morning, that the Tuesday-afternoon meeting of the committee to discuss the State Comptroller's report on the 2010 Carmel Ridge Fire must be open to the media. The meeting is being held in the Prime Minister's Office to accomodate the presence of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who is recovering from a foot injury, and the Prime Minister's Office has asked that the meeting be closed to the media after opening statements out of concern that bereaved families or other participants may engage in provocation with the Prime Minister.

Rivlin said a Knesset committee meeting must be transparent and follow Knesset rules. The one exception he allowed for was a meeting dealing with security matters.
