Member of Knesset Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism), who serves as an alternate member of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, took issue, Monday, with the terminology used in the committee's policy session regarding induction of hareidi yeshiva students, following last week's expiration of the Tal Law, which regulated deferments for them.
Gafni said, "To say 'draft evaders' for someone who studies Torah is unacceptable to me. It's insulting speech." He continued, "We live a very clear lifestyle. We did not make it up today. Believe me there is a large Jewish community in Israel and the world that believes we have no existence without the study of Torah."
