The U.S. Senate approved a new package of sanctions on Iran in order to increase the pressure on the leadership in Tehran to stop its nuclear program. The bill passed unanimously in the Senate, several hours after being approved by a majority of 421 to six in the House of Representatives.

The bill now heads to the White House for President Barack Obama's signature.
