Defense Minister Ehud Barak praised the activities of the Home Front Command (HFC) on Wednesday. He spoke during a celebration marking the HFC’s 20th year.
“For many years the concept of our enemies to the south, east and north was that they would surprise us and fight us directly face-to-face,” he said. “After five wars they came to the conclusion that this thing has no chance, because the IDF overwhelmed them again and again, so they turned directly to our soft spot – hitting our home front with rockets and missiles.”
He added, “Their new concept said that Israel, in which human life is a supreme value, cannot absorb many casualties among its own nationals. Our response has three tiers: the multi-layered interceptor system, the Home Front Command and emergency services and the IDF's offensive capability.”
