In an interview Monday, Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin criticized Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's decision not to call for early elections. Rivlin said that Netanyahu had made “a mistake” in not calling for elections in the wake of Kadima's exit from the government.
“He made a mistake on the moral and ethical level, and he also has damaged the public's trust of politicians,” Rivlin said. “Netanyahu wanted the best results for the country, and had he gone for elections at the right time no one would have been able to beat him,” he added.
