Justice Grunis Warns, Does Not Remove Judge Elsheikh

Supreme Court President Asher Grunis decided, Monday, not to file a complaint with the Judicial Disciplinary Court against Vice President Varda Elsheikh of the Tel Aviv District Court for "improving" the transcript of a trial. While ruling that Judge Elsheikh had changed the transcript, Justice Grunis said it was enough to give her a serious warning, which would go on her record.

The head of the Bar Association had written to Grunis and Justice Minister Ya'akov Ne'eman, seeking to remove Judge Elsheikh from the bench, after Judicial Ombudsman Eli'ezer Goldberg found that she had made technical and substantial changes to a transcript. They included a more serious description of the behavior of an attorney against whom she had filed a complaint with the Bar Association.
