Northern Pear Crop Up 25 Percent

Galil Kiroor, the largest cold storage facility in the north, reported, Monday, that this year's pear crop is expected to reach 30,000 tons, up 6,000 tons from last year.

Chaim Kamin, Chief Executive Officer of Galil Kiroor, part of the Company for Developing the Galilee, said that last year's harvest was particularly small and pears were imported from Europe and the United States to make up for shortfalls in the local market. He cited this year's rainy weather and low temperatures for relatively big harvest of pears and other fruit.
