Delayed a day by Sunday's Tisha B'Av fast, the trading week at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, started with modest to moderate gains, building on advances in international markets on Friday. About 20 minutes into the session, the TA Composite Index stood at 993.50, up 1.39 percent, while the TA 100 rose 1.46 percent to 1,002.57, including a 1.49-percent advance by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues.
Most of the technology stocks led the way, jumping 2.09 percent to 372.79, while the biomed index stood at 748.11. up .56 percent. The oil and natural gas issues advanced 1.33 percent to 1,016.26, followed by the real estate stocks, which stood at 247.14. The bank stocks rose 1.09 percent to 811.10 as the financial institutions stood at 725.45, up .79 percent, including a .45 advance to 717.59 by the insurance index. The communications and media stocks advanced .43 percent to 374.29.
