A group of Israeli investors said over the weekend that they were planning to open a new airline that would fly between Tel Aviv and New York. The flights are expected to begin next April, and the investors said they were told by government and ministerial officials that they would receive the needed permits by then.

The investors said that there was a clear need for more flights on the route. Several of the investors had been involved with Tower Air, which flew between the U.S. and Israel for over ten years, before going bankrupt in 2000.
