2 Torah Scrolls Started in Memory of Rabbi Elyashiv

The Shiv'a - seven initial days of mourning - for Rabbi Yoseph Shalom Elyashiv ended, Wednesday with the beginning of the writing of two Torah scrolls in his memory. The honor of writing the first letters in each scroll went to his son in law, Rabbi Chayim Kanievsky, after he paid a condolence call to his in-laws.

Thousands flocked to Rabbi Elyashiv's grave in the Har Hamenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem. Some of them had gathered at the site since the early-morning hours, reciting psalms of individual and community salvation. Members of the family went to the gravesite, recited Kaddish and asked for the rabbi's forgiveness.
