New recruits to the Nahal Haredi unit of the Israel Defense Force will have their privacy maintained. The IDF will not allow any media coverage of the recruitment activities or ceremonies.
The Nahal Haredi unit was created in 1999 by a group of rabbis in cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces and the Ministry of Defense. According their their website, the unit intends to be "a venue for young men who wish to serve the national interests of Eretz Yisrael while adhering to the highest religious standards." It is currently comprised of almost 1,000 soldiers.
