Proposal: Raise VAT to 17%

The Finance Ministry’s Budget branch has suggested cutting NIS 700 million from the government’s budget, while simultaneously raising the VAT to 17%. Administrators estimate that the move would bring in another 4 billion shekels, helping the government cover recent spending.

The suggestion will be brought to the government for approval on Monday.
