Despite tension caused by Monday's sharp declines on some of the world's markets, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange opened Tuesday trading with modest gains in mixed trading. The TA Composite Index stood at 955.46, up .21 percent, while the TA 100 advanced .23 percent to 962.54, including a .47-percent gain by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues.
The communications and media stocks led the gainers, rising .76 percent to 369.99, followed by the bank index at 797.19, up .43 percent, as the financial institutions slipped .08 percent to 717.24 due to a .84 percent decline to 721.86 by the insurance issues. Most of the technology stocks stood at 350.53, up .37 percent, while the biomed index declined .26 percent to 724.79. The oil and natural gas stocks stood at 972.86, down .33 percent, while the real estate index fell .47 percent to 243.90.
