The National Insurance Institute (NII - Bituach Le'umi) has initiated an emergency telephone service in the wake of the suicide by self immolation by Moshe Silman during a recent social-justice protest. The number - 02 646 3333 - will operate in conjunction with the Welfare Ministry's 118 hotline, which has received hundreds of calls, dozens of which have been designated as "red flags". Those calls have resulted in urgent visits by social workers to provide an initial response, accompanied by followup care of the case.
The "red flag" service is intended for unusual cases that require immediate attention beyond that normally provided by NII. The number is available 24 hours a day. Calls received during the evening and overnight will be dealt with first thing in the morning.
