The Number of Unemployed Rose .3 Percent in June

The Employment Service announced, Monday morning, that the number of unemployed people registered with the service rose three tenths of a percent in June from May's figure of 185,400. Boaz Hirsch, who heads the service, said that the number was consistent with the average monthly rise in the first half of the year and coincides with other indicators of an economic slowdown. At the same time, he said a personnel survey showed a seven tenths of a percent increase from January to May, when 63.4 percent of wage earners were participating in the economy.

Of the 193,655 people who contacted the service, those seeking income support totalled 110,085, of whom 69,196 were unemployed for more than 270 days.
