Public Service, Fine for Cursing Hareidi Hitchhiker

The Ashkelon Magistrates Court fined a motorist 2,000 shekels and sentenced him to 80 hours public service work at the Tze'elon Geriatric Hospital in Jaffa on a conviction of harassment for cursing a hareidi-religious man to whom he gave a ride.

The victim of the abuse filed a lawsuit after the driver suddenly burst out in a series of epithets and did not comply with his request to stop. During the course of the hearing, the motorist's attorney asked the court not to convict him in spite of similar offenses in the past. He even offered 2,000 shekels to the victim as compensation.
