Five district leaders of the Israel Bar Association sent a letter, Sunday, to President Asher Grunis of the Supreme Court in which they asked him not to enable the return of Vice president Varda Elsheikh of the Tel Aviv District Court to the bench at the end of a sabbatical leave. Chairman Effi Naveh of the Tel Aviv district told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew journal that they sent the letter after they heard that Justice Grunis would only issue a reprimand and let her return after judicial ombudsman Eliezer Goldberg reported that Judge Elsheikh had "improved" and changed transcripts from a case she heard, in violation of the law.
The attorneys sent a similar letter to Justice Minister Ya'akov Ne'eman last month and did not get a reply. Naveh said, "Public confidence in the justice system is very important. After all, if a lawyer would do these things, they would revoke his license, if a citizen were to do so, it would be criminal."
