The Knesset Labor, Welfare and Health Committee approved, Sunday, regulations of the "Advisory Law", passed by the Office of Veteran Citizens. According to the regulations, government offices and public bodies will make an active effort to inform senior citizens of their rights. Currently many seniors do not avail themselves of these rights and benefits because they don't know about them. The senior citizen hotline (*8400) gets a quarter of a million calls a year on questions about senior rights.
Every year, the office will send seniors a booklet which will contain statements of senior rights from the Bituach Leumi National Insurance Institute, municipalities and local councils, health institutions and the Israel Electric Company. It will also publish notifications in Hebrew, Arabic, Russian and Amharic media to let people know about the availability of the book.
