Report: U.S. Asked Israel Not to Bomb Syrian Weapons

The British Sunday Telegraph said in its latest edition that the United States was seeking to persuade Israel not to bomb Syrian chemical stores. Reports last week said that Israel and the U.S. had consulted on the possibility of bombing the stores before Hizbullah or other terror groups could seize them, if and when President Bashar al-Assad's regime falls. Israel and the U.S. both know the locations of the weapons, the report said.

Meanwhile, the New York Times said over the weekend that the U.S. was consulting with Israel and Turkey on how to bring about the end of the Assad regime. An upcoming visit by U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, as well as a recent visit by National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, was dedicated in part to discussions on the matter, the report said.
