Remand Extended in Jaba' Mosque Torching, Vandalism

The Jerusalem Magistrates Court ordered, Thursday, the extension until Monday of the remand of two minors who were arrested, Wednesday, on suspicion of involvement in the torching of a mosque in the Samarian Arab village of Jaba', near the Binyamin-region Jewish community of Geva'-Adam, a few weeks ago. Spray-painted at the scene were the Hebrew words for "price tag Giv'at Haulpana", referring to residents of the neighborhood of the religious girls' high school in nearby Beit El, who were evicted at about that time.

The Honenu legal-aid organization, which is defending the suspects, said that police sought to extend the remand of the suspects 10 days and refused to answer defense questions about evidence they described as confidential. Honenu says the police were similarly secretive about confidential evidence in the remand of an adult arrested with his wife, Wednesday at Migron. The woman was released Wednesday after the two were interrogated for a few hours. It was unclear if her husband was arrested in connection with the mosque vandalism.
