The Knesset held a ceremony Tuesday to mark 100 years since the birth of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who rescued several tens of thousands of Jews during the Holocaust. Wallenberg’s whereabouts have been unknown since the Soviet army captured Budapest.
“Wallenberg did not see the artificial barriers and divisions between human beings,” said Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin. “Looking back over the years, Wallenberg’s image shines brightly… a shining star in the sky of humanity, a northern light guiding the way in days when human dignity was trampled.”
