The Supreme Court announced, Tuesday, its decision to reject a petition by the Ometz movement demanding that Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein order a criminal investigation by police into the Harpaz Affair. The court said, in a statement, that the Ometz petition was filed too close to its own request of the attorney general.
Reserve officer Boaz Harpaz has admitted to the forgery of a document, discovered in 2010, that cast dispersions on the process for selecting a successor to then chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi of the Israel Defense Forces. He claimed, at the time, that the process was started too early. Followup investigations have cast a less-than-positive on Ashkenazi and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
