Electric Company: Conserve, Be Ready for Outages

The Israel Electric Company asked customers, Monday, to continue to divert the use of energy-intensive appliances from the afternoon hours to the off-peak hours and not to set air conditioners below 25Celsius/77Fahrenheit, in anticipation of peak demand to higher-than-usual temperatures. The utility said that energy saving by the public on Sunday helped lower demand by 250 megawatts.

Demand could rise to within 340 megawatts of the system's 11,590 MW production capacity. The company said that if a generating unit goes down, as was the case at a couple of places on Sunday, it might have to cut power around the country for an hour or two in a way that affects the public equally on a geographical basis.
