Speaking at Sunday morning's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu commented on a law proposed by the Yisrael Beytenu party to draft all Israelis at age 18, including Arabs. The government supports working with hareidi leaders to promote IDF or national service for yeshiva students and wishes to postpone the discussion on drafting Arabs.
Netanyahu said that the Yisrael Beytenu law was too ambitious and that nothing would come from the deliberations over it; in the end, neither yeshiva students nor Arabs would be drafted. “These kinds of proposals are good for headlines, but not action,” Netanyahu said.
