The Chairman of Professors for a Strong Israel, Dr. Gabi Avital, told Arutz Sheva on Wednesday that the acquittals of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert prove that the indictment against him was filed for political reasons.

“This was not a fair trial, but rather a court persecution,” said Avital. “If this is the result after four years, they should do some soul-searching.”

He added that the prosecution has always found excuses to file charges against people it perceived as rivals, saying, “It was the same with Yaakov Neeman, with Rafael Eitan, Meir Sheetrit and Haim Ramon. Everything started the moment Olmert announced that he will appoint Daniel Friedman as Justice Minister. The same thing happens today with [Foreign Minister Avigdor] Lieberman. Everything is political.”
