Transportation Ministry officials conducted spot checks of cars in the first half of 2012. Cars owned by Palestinian Authority residents driving in Judea and Samaria (Shomron) were checked as well.
Of the 88 cars owned by PA residents that were examined, 43 were found unfit to drive. One was towed immediately after it was discovered that the brakes did not work at all. It was later found that there was no brake fluid in the car, and the brake pads had been removed.
Thirteen percent of Israeli-owned cars were found unfit to drive – a drop of 35% compared to the first half of 2011.
