Report: Service Law for Hareidim Now; Arabs Later

It appears that an arrangement for hareidi national service will be determined now, while the discussion over Arab service will be completed by year's end, according to a Tuesday morning report by the Yisrael Hayom daily. The appraisal came at the end of talks, on Monday, between representatives of the Likud and Kadima parties.

The apparent new draft law will gradually reflect the hareidi community without deferral to after the age of 22, so that by 2016 more than 70 percent of those turning 18 will take on military or civilian service. Personal sanctions on those who refuse service will be smaller and implemented on a more gradual basis.
