Chief Executive Officer François Adrianus "Frans" van Houten of Holland's Royal Philips Electronics company discussed technological solutions to problems and challenges in Israel and around the world during an economic work meeting, Tuesday morning, with President Shim'on Peres. The problems included the improvement of health systems and use of cost-effective lighting as a way of building a sustainable future through "green economy".
Peres was impressed by the activities of Philips in Israel and the readiness of the company to continue and expand its research and development activities in the medical field here. He said, "Phillips occupies a central place in Israel's high-tech industry. Philips' development center in Haifa is among the world's leaders and a central partner in some of most innovative technologies in the world." Van Houten said it was an inspiration for him to visit Peres, whose 89th birthday is August 2nd.
