Talia Sasson Takes Issue with Edmond Levy

Attorney Talia Sasson, who wrote a report for then-prime minister Ariel Sharon, calling for the destruction of unauthorized Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria (Shomron), criticized, Monday morning, last week's report by a committee, headed by former Supreme Court Justice Edmond Levy, which said that Jews could live anywhere in Judea and Samaria (Shomron) because international law does not define the area as occupied territory.

Interviewed by Kol Yisrael government radio, Sasson said the report ignores four decades of High Court rulings on the matter and she could not see how Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein could adopt the report. She stressed that the government and attorney general are subject to the laws and decisions of the Supreme Court, which she called the only entity authorized to determine the legal status of Judea and Samaria.
