Ya'alon, Plesner to Continue Drafting Draft Law Monday

Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud) and Member of Knesset Yochanan Plesner (Kadima) are scheduled to continue discussions, Monday, on the wording of new legislation that dictates national military or civilian service for all, according to a Monday-morning report by Kol Yisrael government radio. Their goal is to have a draft of the law ready for the next cabinet meeting.

The Yisrael Beytenu party is against some of the specific recommenations formulated by the committee Plesner headed on the equal burden of service before it was dissolved by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Yisrael Beytenu wants all 18-year-olds to enlist, whether they be Jew or Arab, and does not want service deferred for 60,000 members of the hareidi-religious community.
