Prayer-Shawl Ornaments Stolen in U.S. to Get Drug Money

Two men, ages 20 and 25 from the Flatbush section of Brooklyn have admitted to stealing silver atarot (ornaments) from talitot (prayer shawls) of hareidi-religious worshippers in the area. The two were suspected of dressing like hareidim to avoid suspicion, sneaking into synagogues and removing the ornaments. They would go to the local market and sell the ornaments, valued at hundreds of dollars, for amounts not exceeding double figures, according to local media reports.

Following their arrest, last weekend, by the local Shomrim (Guards) organization, the two were charged with the thefts, attacking people and using drugs.
