Commenting on the intention of the Likud to insist that Arabs be drafted into the IDF or national service, Arab High Court Judge Abed Zuabi said that there was no reason for Arabs not to serve, but that they needed to be treated equally. Speaking to Israel Radio, Zuabi said that the state discriminated against Arabs by confiscating their land, and that there were few, if any Arabs in large corporations like the Israel Electric Company. If these issues could be resolved, he said, Arabs would be able to serve with a full heart.

“We will gladly serve,” Zuabi said, “but you must give us a full place in society and treat us with respect.”
