New Comptroller: Follow-Up is Crucial

New State Comptroller Yosef Shapira spoke in Knesset on Wednesday during his swearing-in, and emphasized the importance of following up on problems. “The role of criticism is to point out failings and problems – but it is no less important to ensure that the problems are fixed,” he said.

“Criticism that ends up as a dead letter in books, or that echoes for a minute and then dies out without leading to any change has betrayed its role,” he continued.

Shapira also warned that failure to act due to fear of criticism “harms public service, and maybe even increases corruption.”
