About 20 minutes into the session, the TA Composite Index stood at 978.20, up .01 percent, while the TA 100 rose .02 percent to 987.10, despite a .07 percent slip by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues.
Leading the gainers were the insurance stocks, which jumped 2.08 percent to 872.74, as the financial institutions opened with a posting of 796.57, up .31 percent, despite a .19 percent slump to 867.93 by the bank index. The biomed issues advanced .89 percent to 716.58, while the rest of the technology stocks declined .37 percent to 355.44. The real estate index slipped .03 percent to 260.04, while the oil and gas issues stood at 1,081.36, down .21. The communications and media stocks fell .28 percent to 387.44.
