The Security Council of the United Nations voted, Monday, to remove the Movement for Islamic Reform in Arabia (MIRA), led by Saudi Dr. Sa'ad Al-Faqih, from the list of organizations related to Al-Qaeda which are subject to sanctions. The move took place despite the opposition of Saudi Arabia and concerns raised by the United States despite about Al-Faqih.
Wikipedia cited a 2005 report by the U.S. State Department, which says MIRA was founded in 1996 as a splinter of the Committee for the Defense of Legitimate Rights, both of which "continued to advocate overthrowing the [Saudi] monarchy by force." The report said Al-Faqih, was "a supporter of international terrorism."
