The Hevron Jewish community expressed its sorrow, Monday, at the passing of former prime minister Yitzchak Shamir. They referred to him as a fighter for the freedom of Israel and a guardian of the land who proved his loyalty to the "city of the fathers" when he resigned from the Likud party in protest of "the Hevron Agreement".

In expressing condolences to the Shamir family and to his other admirers, the community sought to find comfort in the building of Hevron and the land of Israel.
