MK Eldad: Govt. Has Divided Jerusalem Already

During a tour of Jerusalem by members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) said that “the Government of Israel has in practice divided Jerusalem.” Eldad said that the security fence dividing the western neighborhoods of the city from the eastern, mostly Arab neighborhoods, was largely to blame. “The state has removed from Jerusalem large tens of thousands of people in Jerusalem, many of the them Israeli citizens, through the establishment of the wall as it currently stands.”

Eldad added that this was done without a Knesset decision, and without a governmental policy. “In the same manner they are planning to divide Gush Etzion, as if there were a partner on the other side who would agree to make peace, if only there was a wall in the heart of Gush Etzion,” he said.
