Unless the Plesner Committee discussing a fair sharing of the burden of IDF service includes Arabs in its draft plans, MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) plans to file a petition with the High Court demanding that it do just that. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Defense Minister, IDF Chief of Staff, and State Attorney, Ben-Ari, along with rightwing activist Baruch Marzel, said that all Israeli citizens, including Arabs, were covered by laws requiring service to the State of Israel. As such, there was no reason for an automatic exemption to be granted to anyone on the basis of their race or religion.

“If the law on this matter is not fulfilled properly, we will be forced to file a petition with the High Court,” the letter said.
