Mohammed Morsi was sworn in as President of Egypt on Saturday. In a speech following the ceremony, Morsi promised to work for “a better tomorrow,” and for a “new Egypt. Today the Egyptian people have set the foundation of their new lives – complete freedom, true democracy, and stability,” Morsi said.
In addition to taking office, Morsi received the responsibilities that the army had taken during the transition from the rule of Hosni Mubarak. Field Marshall Tantawi, who is to be Egypt's Defense Minister, praised Morsi for his support of the army, whom Morsi termed “my sons and brothers.”
