Prof. Israel Aumann, a Nobel Prize recipient, defended the Ariel University Center upon it pending recognition as an official university. A group of academic leaders write to government officials protesting against including Ariel University. Prof. Aumann was reported by Yedioth Ahronoth news as stating, "their claim is ridiculous. These are totally political moves." He said the opposition was based on the fact that the institution is located in Samaria.
