Muslim Brotherhood Threatens Pilgrimage to Jewish Tomb

The election in Egypt of Mohammed Mursi, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, could affect an annual Jewish pilgrimage to the grave of an important rabbi. Rabbi Yaakov Abuhatzeira was a leader of the Moroccan Jewish community. He passed away in Egypt on his way to the land of Israel in 1879. An annual ceremony is held every year at his tomb in Egypt, often attended by hundreds. Senior Muslim Brotherhood members have reported threatened acts of violence if Jewish people come this year to visit the grave.
