Several activists protested Wednesday outside the home of Rabbi Zalman Melamed, the chief rabbi of Beit El. They protested the decision, supported by Rabbi Melamed, to evacuate homes slated for demolition peacefully in exchange for a government promise to build more homes.

Some of the protesters shouted, “The land of Israel is not for sale,” while others said, ”Death to traitors.”
