The Knesset voted Wednesday to give initial approval to a bill that would allow victims of gender discrimination in the workplace to sue for back pay for seven years’ worth of work. Currently, victims of discrimination may sue for only a two year difference in pay.
According to Maariv the lawsuit was inspired by Orit Goren, who was paid just 17 shekels an hour for her work at Home Center, while a male colleague in the same job earned 26 shekels an hour. Goren sued, but was awarded damages for just two years.
