Committee Sends Comptroller Extension to Knesset

The Knesset State Control Committee approved, Monday, wording of a bill to give the state comptroller up to three months after the completion of his or her term to submit final reports to the state, provided that drafts of those reports are submitted before the final three months of the term.

Attorney and former minister Shimon Shetreet rejected claims by the Knesset's legal advisor and a Justice Ministry representative that the bill was contrary to the basic law regarding the comptroller's office and that the situation was different from that of judges who have a three-month deadline for ruling on active cases. The bill now goes to the full Knesset for its first reading.
